Join the Morristown Centennial Library and Lamoille Health Partners for a creative, supported, peer-space for LGBTQIA+ teens. Every week explore a new medium, connect with like-minded individuals and find a place for genuine expression. This program meets at the Morrisville Centennial Library on the fourth Tuesday of each month as part of the L.I.F.T Group run by the Lamoille Health Partners. Every other week, this group will meet at River Arts for messier creative projects.
Rye Flieder (they/them) is a genderqueer artist who's always been driven to the hills. A Coloradoan by birth, they now reside in Morrisville, where they can be found crouching to photograph cool bugs and wandering along the Rail Trail. After graduating from Northern Vermont University with a B.A. in Journalism, they stayed in Vermont so they could continue to chase their lifelong dream of becoming a Sasquatch-- fostering community and creating art is just the cherry on top.
As a deeply weird kid, the best and most memorable parts of my adolescence were spent in GSAs and "queer spaces": places that fostered open communication and thoughtful connection. These spaces welcomed All: gay, straight, and all the starbits in between. It wasn't about my identity or the label I had at the time-- it was simply the absence of judgement. The adults present fostered my curiosity for life, encouraged my growth, and showed me that it's almost always necessary to color outside the lines. My goal for River Arts' Queer Space is to give that back to this community-- the non-judgemental, creative space that these kids deserve.
