Taking a page from Vermont’s long tradition of granite carving, learn the basics of relief carving while also making functional ceramic tiles. Participants will learn how to use various carving tools to create an image. By the end of the class, each participant should have several tiles that they can fire. At least one tile will be used this summer in a community tile project!
Wolf Whitney (she/her) is a self taught wood carver and an apprenticing stone sculptor. Wolf studied at the Vermont Woodworking School and also dabbles in mixed media arts.
After leaving active duty in the U.S Army she moved to Vermont to pursue a simple life. Little did she know that this move would inspire her to start creating art. Surrounded by rolling fields and granite mountains, Wolf became enamored with the idea of creating by destroying. Carving in any material is simply that. You remove pieces of the raw material to make it something beautiful.
