Beginners Wheel-Throwing Class
In this beginner's lesson series, students will have a 2-hour-long 4-week series led by Ms. Gillian, our resident wheel throwing instructor.
In this program students will be introduced to the fundamentals of clay: background of the medium, mechanics of the wheel, and skills in centering, throwing, and controlling clay on the wheel. Students will learn about trimming, finishing, handle making, carving, surface treatments, and glaze bisque work.
A series includes:
8 hours of instruction
1/4 of a bag of clay per student
Bisque firing costs
Glaze firing costs
Students can expect to pick up completed work 2-3 weeks after the last lesson concludes.

Meet The Instructor!
Gillian's initial exposure to ceramics occurred during her formative years at a summer camp, a common experience for many individuals. Subsequently, she pursued a Bachelor of Arts degree in studio art from Dartmouth College. Following this, she dedicated multiple years to project management within the non-profit sector, with a specific focus on community-based economic development within the United States and abroad. Having resided in diverse regions such as Morocco, Togo, and Chad, Gillian possesses a profound fascination with the varied traditions of functional arts, particularly pottery, found across the global landscape. Currently residing in East Hardwick, Gillian devotes her time to agricultural pursuits, culinary endeavors, and the provision of heritage arts instruction. A longstanding member of the River Arts studio, she highly regards the studio's cohesive community.
