Featured Artist of the Month: Kathy Stark
Every month we will feature one artist participating in the Virtual Open Studio Figure Drawing. March’s featured artist is Kathy Stark.
Artist Statement
Kathy Stark is a contemporary artist who explores the use of texture and repeat imagery in her paintings. Kathy’s works have subtle coloration, texture and modulating surfaces. She uses written text, runic symbols, collage pieces, line, checkerboards and dots to create patterns employing a wide variety of materials. Kathy has traveled extensively which has provided her with a background of experiences which she makes full use of in her artwork. Time spent in Europe, Israel, Mexico, traveling the United States and numerous years living in New York City have fed and inspired her creative output. Kathy Stark is represented in galleries in New York City, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. Her work is included in many public art collections among them A.T. & T., Chase Manhattan, Chemical Bank, Vermont State Collection are but a few. She was the recipient of a Vermont Arts Council Grant in 2010 and 2008. Kathy is the winner of the Audrey Hope Shirk Award (2007), the Francie Lieber Memorial Award (2007), Award of Excellent Beth El Art Festival (2007), First Prize TAF(2005).
