Barn Quilt with Kristin Murphy

Barn quilts have a rich history and can be traced back to revolutionary war. Join local artist and teacher Kristin Murphy to create your very own barn quilt while exploring the historic roots. Each student will be provided with a 2’x2’ board, select a quilt pattern and explore color theory. Participants will walk away with a unique quilt that can will brighten any outdoor space!

Kristen Murphy received her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a certification to teach in 1990 from Johnson State college. She raised two sons in Hyde Park Vermont and has been teaching art at Laraway School for over 20 years.

After reading about artist, Carrie Caouette- De Lallo and her barn quilt project, Kristen explored barn quilts with her students at Laraway. The barn quilt project was started by Carrie and her daughter Sarah in Chelsea Vermont as a celebration of community arts in 2017. There are over 130 barn quilts hanging in Chelsea with a map that people can use to view.
