Where We've Been
Gen Z Artists Reflecting Resilience in a Time of Uncertainty
Copley Studio Gallery
August 6th, 2020 - November 30th, 2020
The teen artist program at River Arts offers the opportunity for youth who are serious about their art to refine their work and then curate an exhibit. River Arts collaborated with artists Matt Neckers, who runs the Creative Media and Design program at Green Mountain Technology and Career Center, and Leila Bandar, professor at Northern Vermont University.
The program began in March but due to COVID19 it was put on hold. River Arts decided to continue as best they could, despite the circumstances, so they reached out to the teen artists, supplying them with the materials needed to keep making their art. The pieces include themes around nature, environment, wildlife and the struggles in dealing with depression.
The artists involved, who work in various mediums, are Shawna Beattie and Serenity Braun of Peoples Academy, Abrie Howe of Stowe High School, and Erin Stoddard of Lamoille Union High School. This exhibition and program was curated by Youth Programs Coordinator, Judith Mathison.
