Rusty Dewees, local storyteller/musician/actor, continues to delight audiences throughout Vermont with his unique brand of humor.  His Tiny Town Hall Tour incorporates his material from growing up in Vermont along with music to create a uniquely Vermont experience. “My Tiny Town Hall show comes from the idea that a small hall in a small town is filled with people who know each other,” says Dewees. “I’m the show, that’s valuable, but locals chatting before, during intermission, and after the show to catch up has extremely long-lasting value with a “back-in-the-day” show experience. I love it.”

Raised in Vermont since the age of 7, Dewees career spans from working with Robert Ringer’s Repertory Theater in Burlington to studying, acting, and working in New York, honing his storytelling skills with the heart of Vermont always present in his work.  “It’s cliché to say my logger stories and jokes just “came out of me” when I was driving back-and-forth from New York City to Vermont, but it’s true,” continues Dewees. “Both my performance material and books highlight an old Americana way of life; my show being Vermont specific. I write and perform in deference to Vermonters.”

Dewee’s feels River Arts is a perfect fit for his Tiny Town Hall performance that brings the old timey feel of Town Hall gatherings with humor and a conversational feel. “My show fits perfectly with what River Arts presents for classes and fine art, and live shows. I’ve done thousands of shows but never one at River Arts, and I can’t wait.”

“River Arts has been in the community for almost 25 years,” says Stephanie Drews-Sheldon, Executive Director of River Arts, “but the building is one of the oldest in Morrisville.  This was the original Peoples Academy School built in 1847 at the bargain price of $750.  Every inch of this historically designated building speaks to a simpler time with its beautiful gathering spaces and original design intact. It continues to be a gathering space for all in the community, and Rusty’s Tiny Town Hall is a perfect fit for River Arts. You can just feel the history here and how many generations of Vermonters have walked through our doors.”

And what town hall would be complete without some pie and coffee?  A short intermission will include pie for sale by the slice or whole to take home, coffee, and cash bar available.

Rusty Dewees will be performing his Tiny Town Hall on Saturday November 18th from 6:00pm-8:00pm at River Arts located on 74 Pleasant Street in Morrisville.  Parking is in the municipal lot across the street. Tickets can be purchased at riverartsvt.org ahead of time for $25 each at riverartsvt.org or in person at the event for $30.
