Open House Saturday September 16 11am-3pm
On September 16th, we are offering a unique look into their programming that will be free to all in the community. Through hands-on experience with a variety of materials from printmaking to pottery, visitors will take home an artistic keepsake from the day, and learn about River Arts’ fall afterschool and adult classes.
Whether River Arts is familiar or new to you, this Open House is an invitation to learn a bit more about how River Arts serves their community through art programming for all ages. Housed in the old Peoples Academy 1847 schoolhouse, River Arts is in its 23rd year of serving the Morristown community and beyond.
Downstairs—Clay Studio Demonstration
Downstairs will have 2 wheel throwers from the River Arts’ Clay Studio on hand creating pottery on the wheel. Visitors are invited to see how they create and talk to them about the process of throwing clay on a wheel. All will be encouraged to try their hand at the craft as well.
Upstairs—Printmaking Demonstration
The River Arts print press is an art piece in itself. Built in 1904 in the heart of New York City, this press came to River Arts through a donation from Jo Harrison and Judith Wrend. The print press will be on full display with a chance for visitors to create a one-of-a-kind monoprint.
Big and Messy Space for Young Printmakers
Part of upstairs will be a space for young printmakers to explore through color and shape. Toddler ages and up accompanied by a parent will be able to make colorful prints with creative textures and shapes. Play clothes are recommended for this space.
River Arts Open House is on September 16th from 11:00am-3:00pm at 74 Pleasant Street in Morrisville. Participants can expect about an hour to experience the entire Open House and will want to come between the hours of 11:00am-2:00pm to do so. Parking is across the street in the municipal parking lot.
