Best Famous Artist Scarecrow: Enjoy! Bob Ross by Pam Locke, Carol Benson, and painter Carmen Campbell

Creativity is everywhere! And, River Arts is just the right organization for bringing out that joyful creativity that resides in all of us. Take, for example, the recent Community Scare Crow project that lined the path of the Morrisville Rail Trail during October. Who knew that such talent existed in local people of all ages and stages of life?! Some scarecrows held a simple elegance that continues to occupy several scary brain cells and just won’t go away! Some were just plain fun, and others were very elaborate and handsome! I am sure that all the crows were very scared on the Rail Trail in Morrisville! At least for a moment in time.

During this time of the COVID 19 Pandemic it has been so refreshing that River Arts has continued to encourage and promote our individual and collective creativity – to make things, to do things, and to offer a space to create in-person and on-line too. Although in-person classes have been scaled back to respect the guidelines for keeping us all safe using social distancing, there are a number of fabulous opportunities for youth and adults. The Clay Studio is going strong and there is a new series of cool events under the banner: CSArt Subscription. This is a novel way of creating with families, friends, or in a solo capacity to expand our understanding of the arts. The 3 months CSArts Subscription for Winter will include January – a month of Music; February – a month of Felt; and March – a Month of Clay.

Like many organizations, River Arts has had to make some difficult decisions during our time of the COVID 19 pandemic. We have had to reduce staff and engage a number of spirited volunteers to help make things work. We have also reduced the hours during which the building could be opened. But there is a creative spirit alive and living within all those involved. We welcome all who want to explore the arts during this strange time of social restrictions and uncertainty. Together we are creating a joyful and meaningful end of 2020 and beginning of a new year. All of us. Together. Create!
