Journeys in Pastel: Local Artists on Display at River Arts This Spring

Journeys in Pastel

Opening Reception May 23

5:30pm-7:30pm

All of the colors will be on display this Spring at River Arts with a show called Journeys in Pastel. This group show of accomplished pastel artists from the Central Vermont Chapter of the Vermont Pastel Society will run from May 23-August 22 and kicks off with a free reception on May 23 from 5:30pm-7:30pm.  Visitors will get to meet with the local artists highlighted in the exhibition, ask questions, and learn more about process and inspiration for their pastel creations.

Marcia Hill, organizer and member of the Central Vermont Chapter of the Vermont Pastel Society, feels the work represented helps locals to get a great vision of the talent that lives right here in Lamoille County and the surrounding area. The medium of pastels have been used for centuries by artists of all skill levels and are a very accessible material for creating art. As Hill explains, “Pastels use the same pigment as all mediums, but the pigment is not dissolved as with watercolors or oils. It is simply compressed into sticks with a minimum of binder. That’s why pastels are such an expressive medium. In a group show setting such as Journeys in Pastel, viewers will be able to see many different styles of expression.”

Stephanie Drews-Sheldon, Executive Director of River Arts agrees.  “We are so fortunate to be able to highlight these pastelists throughout the summer at River Arts.  They capture and bring to life this part of Vermont through their artwork with vibrant colors and  creative application.”

River Arts is located at 74 Pleasant Street in Morrisville.  The gallery is open from 9am-4pm daily.  The space hosts a variety of programming, so calling ahead to view the artwork is suggested. Guests are asked to park in the municipal parking lot across the street from the River Arts building.
