River Arts has always had a special place in my heart because my friend, who was my mentor, my cheerleader, and most of all the godfather of my children, helped to start River Arts. I am so proud to have contributed and to have seen the creation of the Robert Folley room come to fruition. Every time I am in that room, I feel his enormous heart surrounding us.

Years of being in the real estate business and the art community in Vermont has kept me in the presence of dedicated people who have been with River Arts since its conception. I have watched the growing pains, the financial struggles, and the desire to stick to its mission statement; to be an inclusive art center for all of the community. This commitment has brought art in all forms to many who have come to rely on River Arts as their outlet for expression.

Art is not just painting or drawing, it is music, dance, exhibits, cooking, three dimensional projects, community sharing experiences and more. Many people have never had the opportunity to be exposed to the arts, River Arts is very accessible. It has a warm and welcoming presence the moment you walk through the door.

The pandemic hit us pretty hard, but the community support through donations has helped us survive. With a pared down staff, board members have offered to teach their speciality. We even have teenagers to run a class just for teens. While it is always convenient to have a Director, we were unable to sustain the financial drain. We are most fortunate to  have two incredible assistants, Heidi and Lisa, who are very dedicated to River Arts. Without them, we would be having a very difficult time.

Looking to the holidays we are striving at River Arts to celebrate the diversity within our community, working to make everyone feel included. It is our mission to be the best resource in the Lamoille area for fun, relaxation, a safe place to express oneself and we hope to expand everyone’s horizons. Celebrate with us, keep hope in our hearts, and remember, art is what fills your soul.
