Abstract Tropical Influence I by Maria Anghelache

Tropical Abstract/Abstractions

Paintings by Maria Anghelache

Tropical Abstract/Abstractions, a collection of abstract paintings by Maria Anghelache, arose in response to the long winters in Vermont.  Enveloping the viewer in an explosion of vibrant color, Anghelache uses acrylic and pigment markers to create “conversations” in which “natural elements emerge like multiple ideas going in multiple directions”.  Influenced by artist Georges Braque, Anghelache builds up and breaks down natural elements, using brilliant colors to convey an emotional response.  Flowers, butterflies and seagrass are pulled into her creative “conversations”, and flow onto the canvas in a riot of blues, reds, yellows and greens.

Originally from Bucharest, Romania, Anghelache moved with her family to the United States in 1995 where she settled in Vermont.  She received her B.A. in Art at Johnson State College and M.A. in Studio Art, Critical Theory of Art from New York University.  She has shown her work at home and abroad, and has work in public and private collections in Romania, Italy, New York and Vermont.

The Gallery at River Arts is located in the Robert C. Folley Performance Hall on the second floor of the River Arts Center.
