Trip to see the Vermont Symphony Orchestra at the Flynn Theatre – March 10th!

March 10th

DON’T DRIVE TO THE NEXT MASTERWORKS CONCERT (concert info below)!

In cooperation with the Vermont Symphony Orchestra (click here to visit their website!), we will be organizing coach transportation from Central Vermont to the March 10th concert at the Flynn Theatre (click here to visit their website).

The cost for the coach is just $12 per person round trip (reduced from the original $25 price thanks to generous sponsorship), so you can sit back and enjoy the ride without having to worry about weather, driving at night, traffic, parking or gas expenses.

The luxury coach will originate at River Arts in Morrisville, and make additional stops in Stowe and Waterbury, arriving in Burlington at 5:00pm in time for dinner at a restaurant of your choice before the concert. After the concert, enjoy the luxury of just walking out of the theatre and onto the coach for an easy, comfortable ride home.

The March 10th concert features Jennifer Montone, principal French horn player of the Philadelphia Orchestra, as guest soloist, plus Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 3, “Eroica” conducted by Jaime Laredo.

Additional concert tickets are $24, a 20% discount off the regular prices, so get some friends to join you.

To purchase a bus ticket, or a bus ticket AND a concert ticket, call us during office hours, M_F, 10-2pm at 888-1261, or purchase online with paypal by clicking on the buttons below!

 MASTERWORKS CONCERT -

Jennifer Montone, horn

PROKOFIEV………Classical Symphony
STRAUSS………….Horn Concerto No. 1
BEETHOVEN……..Symphony No. 3, “Eroica”

Second only to “Peter and the Wolf” in popularity, Prokofiev’s Classical Symphony is one part neo-classicism (harkening back to an 18th century idiom), and one part innovation, stirred by a belief that music should nourish with hope and beauty. The result is delicious! Our soloist for Richard Strauss’s first horn concerto is the amazing Jennifer Montone, principal horn with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Strauss’ abiding love for the heroic French horn, and his indebtedness to the style of Schumann and Mendelssohn, are evident in this remarkably mature early work. The concert concludes with Beethoven’s paean to heroism, his Third Symphony. Although the “Eroica” includes the most famous funeral march in the literature, death does not have the last word in this epic, immortal symphony.

Ian Ethan & Gregory Douglass – Homecoming Concert – Hyde Park Opera House – May 26th, 7pm $15

Saturday, May 26th, 7pm at the Hyde Park Opera House

Ian Ethan -

“I’m really looking forward to playing in Hyde Park again. For one thing, it’s where I lived when I was first discovering what I could do with the double-neck, and something about the landscape there and all the time I spent outdoors exploring the woods and back roads and old logging trails, really connects in a way with the particular musical territory I’ve found myself in as a result of this whole journey with the double-neck. I still visit VT as often as I can and feel really at home there. It will be especially cool to get to do this concert in the Hyde Park opera house. The first time I went in there several years ago, my first thought was ‘wow, this would be such a cool concert venue! Maybe someday…’  I’m also looking forward to sharing the evening with Gregory Douglass, who I was always hearing about while I lived in Hyde Park, and had the chance to meet briefly when we both played at the Vermont SolarFest in Tinmouth a few years ago. The little bit that I’ve heard of his latest work sounds really great, very creative while still being very approachable, and very polished in a good way.” – Ian Ethan

“Ian Ethan represents something so new in musical approach, that the result is near impossible to pigeon hole into a ‘sounds like’ statement. It has been my personal privilege to observe his unwavering and deep exploration of this new technique and on a relatively rare instrument…the original music of Ian Ethan is not to be missed.”

Emmy-Winning Composer / Producer Peter Bruce Wilder

“...a style beyond even the great double-neckers like Jimmy Page andRichie Sambora…an inventively new vein of guitar playing.

“It’s entrancing to watch…as he rambunctiously weaves between fret boards, slapping and tapping the sounds of the guitar to life seemingly effortlessly in a style that you’ve likely never seen before.”

Gregory Douglass -

Gregory Douglass is an internationally renowned independent musician with eight critically acclaimed albums and a multitude of digital singles & music videos. Douglass has sold over 75,000 songs digitally on his own and his videos have amounted to over 500,000 views on Youtube alone.  His music videos have charted numerous times on MTV Network’s LOGO TV and his newest single “Naysayer” is slated to air on MTV’s upcoming “World Of Jenks” series.  Douglass was a finalist in the 2011 Mountain Stage NewSong Competition and he’s currently starring in Yobi.tv’s original web series “New Stage” alongside Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino.

Douglass’ evocative, alternative sound “channels everyone from Stevie Wonder to Fiona Apple in a way that’s terrifyingly mature for someone so young” according to Instinct Magazine.  With eight critically acclaimed, independent CDs under his belt, the Vermont native has shared the stage with artists like They Might Be Giants, Shawn Colvin, The Weepies, Jason Mraz, Regina Spektor and Margaret Cho.  Douglass’ 2009 release BATTLER features duets with friends and fellow Vermonters Grace Potter (Grace Potter & The Nocturnals/ Hollywood Records) and Anais Mitchell (Righteous Babe Records) and he is currently touring in support of his latest release, LUCID.

Douglass—with his gorgeous voice and poignant, piercing lyrics—burns with a fire that cannot be extinguished or ignored.

Lissa Schneckenburger and Kellen Zakula – February 24, 7 PM

Friday, February 24, 7 PM

Lissa Schneckenberger

$10 at the door.

Raised in a small town in Maine, and now living in Vermont, Lissa grew up with music. By the time she was in high school, she was playing concerts on her own, specializing in sprightly New England dance tunes that combine influences from the British Isles and Quebec. Another major influence was the diverse musical community she found at fiddle camps. She had a chance to play with and learn from a wide variety of musicians, including noted Scottish fiddler, Alasdair Fraser.

Lissa graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music in 2001, witha degree in contemporary improvisation, and since then has been performing around the U.S. and internationally.

Lissa’s fiddling is both uplifting and lively, and her singing is gentle and evocative.  Both in the studio and in concert she is regularly accompanied by some of New England’s best musicians, including guitarist Bethany Waickman, and accordion player Jeremiah McLane. Whether playing  for a folk club audience of a hall full of dancers, Lissa brings to the stage enthusiasm, energy and the bright future of New England’s musical traditions.

In Kellen’s music, the songwriting style of the 60´s and 70´s and traditional old time fiddle and banjo music collide with the vibrant songwriting scene of Boston and New York City.
