Children’s Classes

River Arts is offering a wide range and variety of classes this winter!  Check out our Break Camps taking place during school vacation weeks.  We have 3 classes that will be starting in March and running for 8 weeks.  Register now to ensure your space.  If you need financial assistance please click the link at the bottom of the page to fill out the assistance form.

Break Camp:

Our break camps are week long art camps for children ages 5-12.  The camps take place during school vacation week and run from 8:30-4:30 each day.  Children should bring their own lunch and snacks for the day.

April Break Camp: Monday, April, 19th - Friday, April, 23

Explore the craft of theater through a mini production.  Go from start to finish, learning lines, designing sets and costumes and performing the show. This will be an intensive week of theater! Come have fun exploring your theatrical side!

Cost for this camp is $115

Drum Class

Rock Drumming 101

Dov Schiller (8 Weeks) Middle level, 3:15-4:45, River Arts Center, $85

Starting March 19 – May 14

During the 8 week class students develop confidence, musical discipline & coordination on drums while exploring many different musical styles including rock, jazz and international beats.  Students will start by playing hand drums to experiment with different ways to make sound and combine sounds into rhythm.  Students will move onto more complex drumming methods as the class progresses finishing with drum kits while they learn how to play drums like a rock star!

Dov graduated from the New England Conservatory of Music and has toured internationally with many ensembles.  He has taught several classes for River Arts and teaches music at Harwood Union School.  He is currently touring with the group Cosa Buena.

Sing It! -

Starting March 18- May 13

Lynda Schiller (8 Weeks), Upper Elementary Level, 3:00-4:00, Morristown Elementary Building, $80

In this class students will practice vocal range, pitch and the basic skills of singing.  Students will explore different styles of music, including folk, rock, world and pop music. Come have fun and let YOUR voice be heard!

Lynda Schiller is the soprano for Casa Buena, a Latin-Jazz influenced musical group.  The quartet weaves many different cultures into their ensemble performances.

Video Animation -  March 18- May 13

Meredith Holch (8 Weeks), Upper Elementary and Middle School level, 3:15-4:45, River Arts Center, $85

Make your own movie! You’ll create the story, make the characters and backgrounds, and learn to shoot your movie frame-by-frame on a video camera. All levels of experience welcome!

Meredith is an experienced film maker and River Arts Teacher.  She has worked with Bread and Puppet Theater, and done post-production work for HBO and MTV.  She has screened films at the Green Mountain Film Festival,  Museum of Modern Art in NYC and other National Art Galleries.  Her latest animated film, Neighbors, about the lives of undocumented dairy farm workers in Vermont recently won the “James Goldstone Award”.
