Poetry Wall!:

Work excerpts from our Tuesday night Poetry Clinic:

The Gardener’s War by Ruth White

Slimy, slithery, slippery snails,

my flashlight beams,

nasty, nocturnal nuisances.

Like an army of bulldozers

in demolition, cauliflower,

zucchini, lettuce, and carrots

casualties of the war.

Moonlit army with gluttonous mouths

drawn forth by Nox,

winged goddess of the night.

Do you march in unison?

Such beasts as you, seem far too vile.

Furtive no.

Fearful no.

Lazy, little, listless losers,

boozers, you fat bellied knaves,

I set your trap, filled your vessels

drink to your gluttony

sink to your death.

It is your demise as mine.

Survival,

survival is our war.

How do I not respect your purpose?

Be it not the same as mine?

For food, for sustenance,

the same for all us creatures

large and small.

Moving Slowly to Another Season by Ida Goodell Manning

Light blue sky

Pink clouds here and there

In the East the sun is rising

It’s showing thru the pines

It’s bright, early in the morning

The mountains covered with snow

showing at a distance

A beautiful shade of light pink covers

the lower mountains

The freshness of the new fallen white

snow showing bright

The sun rises high in the sky and the

colored picture disappears

It’s early morning and people are traveling

to work

Their visors go down in their automobiles

To shade the brightness of the morning

But hoorah for the beautiful weather

Hoorah for the winter season

Headed toward spring, another season,

another time of year

The days are getting longer and lighter

It always bring you cheer

People love Vermont for its changing seasons,

life style changes, jobs and a different type of clothing

And you don’t have to move out of your spot

What could be better than seeing the beauty of

early morning, sun rising, color changes, winter season

And the dreams of Vermonters fulfilled
