We’re keeping busy – because, despite the 85 billion dollar bailout of AIG, I think a community’s culture reflects it’s health! SO (here’s the plan of action part) Come out to the River Arts Center this Saturday evening at 8PM for $5… to see some super actors put on a terrific play: Mildred Taken Crazy.
Mildred Taken Crazy is an original two-person play about a notorious Montpelier incident of 1897: the killing of one young lady by another over a man they were both engaged to. The case was a sensation throughout the eastern US, then disappeared from the public record for many decades. Only now has the eventual fate of its perpetrator come to light.
The play is 40 minutes long and spans five decades in epic fashion with two actors and a single chair. It uses a fresh combination of song, drama and storytelling to help the audience feel and think its way through a moment of violence with far-reaching consequences.
The cast and creators of Mildred Taken Crazy are Steve Friedman and Denny Partridge. The pair founded Mud Time Theater last year to create and tour plays of particular interest to year-round Vermonters. Mildred, which is their maiden production, has been performed throughout Vermont, as well as in Poland and Germany. Mud Time Theater is a member of RAMP, the Rockingham Arts and Museum Project of Bellows Falls.
Mr. Friedman and Ms. Partridge have worked together since 1970 on some 60 shows. Veterans of the San Francisco Mime Troupe and NYC’s Modern Times Theater, they have staged original plays and classics throughout the USA and in Europe, Asia, and Central America, winning numerous academic and professional honors, including two Fulbright fellowships. Together and separately they have been on the theater faculties of NYU, Antioch, Vassar, and Barnard.
River Arts has quickly become a venue for plays, concerts, poetry readings, classes, films, special events, exhibits and workshops in all artistic ventures. Community groups and individuals use the space for public and private events, workshops and meetings. River Arts is a place for people of all ages, backgrounds, talents, and means to explore their creativity and engage with each other. Questions, ideas, comments? Please call 888-1261.
