Bell Tower and Ramp

Posted November 2, 2007

Executive Director Steve Ames captured this image the day ofter Halloween.  The building crew can be seen adding copper flashing to the bell tower.  The bell in the tower is the original according to Historian and Board Trustee Dawn Andrews.

In Morristown Two Times, Robert Hagerman writes that the bell was purchased as a gift to the building when it was initially built in 1847 as Poor People’s Academy.

In keeping with River Arts’ mission of "Arts for Everyone", we’re excited to share this photo of the newly poured concrete ramp to the entrance of the building.  Upon entering the Center, there will be a lift that will allow people to access the upstairs of the building with ease.  In addition, the two downstairs bathrooms are accessible.
